Bob and Kathy grew up and went
to school in Miami. After serving four years in the Air Force
as a mechanic, Bob attended the University of Miami, majoring
in Business Administration. Fascinated by airplanes most of
his life, they bought a small Cessna 140. That led to the
beginning of his first career as an Eastern Airlines Captain.
Bob was flying U.S. Troops to Saudi Arabia when Eastern
Airlines finally went into bankruptcy
|
Kathy worked for Florida Power
and Light in Miami when they were first married and later
worked for Eastern Airlines while Bob attended the University
of Miami. (After all, someone had to bring home the bread.)
Life was frugal in those lean years but they never lost sight
of their goals.
|
Kathy has donated lots of time
and energy to such organizations as Everglades Protection
Association which was the first to recognize serious problems
in the quality of water management in Everglades National
Park. Kathy and Bob were founding members and Executive
Officers. Bob was a registered lobbyist in Washington and
Tallahassee on behalf of the organization.
|
They are both sport fishing
enthusiasts. Kathy enjoyed it so much that she taught other
women the art of fly fishing and formed the First Women's
World Tarpon Tournament. It is still going strong after almost
20 years.
|
They helped rebuild the
Islamorada Fishing Club after it burned down in 1984 and Kathy
managed it for two years after it re-opened. Many times, she
cooked for 80, mixed the drinks, served the meals, washed the
dishes, etc... Kathy soon found out that she didn't want to
own a restaurant. Bob served on the Board of Directors and is
also Past President.
|
They eventually went into
leasing aircraft for pilot training at Tamiami Airport, in
Miami, where Kathy also obtained her private pilot's license
and instrument rating. When Andrew hit the area, they only had
one aircraft left and there wasn't time to fly it out. That
was the aircraft Kathy had spent so much time in, getting her
license and instrument rating
|
By this time, Kathy had her
real estate license and was working for CENTURY 21 Coastways,
which was later bought by Keysearch Realty. Bob never thought
he had retired but that Eastern Airlines had retired instead.
Bob looked around for something to do with himself now that he
had all this extra time. He saw the enthusiasm Kathy had in
getting up every morning, heading off to the office to help
people with their real estate needs. Most of all, he saw what
he had experienced as a pilot - the satisfaction that comes
from a job well done. That was the start of Bob's second
career. Now they are one of the top real estate teams in
the Keys
|
They married at eighteen and
have worked as a team all these years - first to get Bob's
education and pilot training and then in whatever else came
along. They were always both involved.
|
They have two children, Bob
Jr., also a pilot; and Lynn, a teacher in Colorado. They also
have four grandchildren.
|
They have lived in the Keys
for almost 30 years and have seen major developments take
place. When they came here, there weren't any major
supermarkets. Weekends were the only time you might get run
over if you slept in the middle of US Highway 1. You didn't
have to dial the prefix of a phone number, only the last four
digits. Thursday night was the time for the locals to go out
on the town before the tourists got here. They have found that
the Keys are a special place for special people

Kathy and Bob joined CENTURY
21 Realty because of the excellent education and
training offered. They understand the importance of the strong
CENTURY 21 Realty support system in today's market
as well as utilizing sound planning, professional ethics and
persuasive skills
